My boyfriend, Tony, and I were playing Taboo with a group of friends. As the timer ticked away, tensions mounted and competition kicked in. Everyone was excited, but Tony’s excitement level surpassed everyone’s in the group. I could see people stare — and it hurt. I just wanted people to know the real Tony, not his hyper personality that surfaces because of Asperger syndrome.

The Shoemakers Outlet is pretty lonely these days. At 257 W. Main St. in downtown Ravenna, the shoe repair and retail store is the only one in Portage County.
