International Insights

In 2010, Brandon Stanton created his blog Humans of New York. This phenomenon of reporting the stories of average people has enlightened me. Stanton has met a number of human beings, many of whom have shared very intimate stories with him. This, to me, means he is the richest man in the world. I want to share students’ stories in the same way. In this blog, I’ll share the stories of international students at Kent State.

Address: 540 S. Water St.

Phone: 330-678-0123

Office hours: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Saturday, by appointment

The up: Convenient, short walk to downtown, and some apartments are furnished.

The down: Outdated.

Our call: Try for an apartment at the back of the building to avoid traffic noise.

A car is almost unnecessary for this location. The University Inn is located only three blocks from campus and two blocks from downtown with a conveniently placed CVS and Walgreens next door. Also not far is University Plaza with a movie theater and Kent Lanes bowling alley, making the location perfect for bike lovers. Although it is a prime location, the building itself is a bit outdated with a swanky, circa-1970s feel. Walls in some living rooms have wood paneling, and the floors in others have shag carpet. If you dig vintage, though, this might be the place for you.

University Inn offers studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments that come furnished or unfurnished. It also includes a fitness room, outdoor pool, laundry room, gated entry and on-site security.

Pets: Cats only, $130 deposit and $10 monthly fee

Parking: Parking included

Rent: Small efficiency $505, large studio $510, deluxe $555, one-bedroom $600, two-bedroom $695 to $785
*Rent is monthly per unit.
**Cable is provided through the apartment complex for $35 per month, but Internet is paid separately through AT&T for the main building. Tenants in the sister building behind CVS Pharmacy can choose their Internet provider, but gas and electric is not included.

$450 studio, $575 one-bedroom, $725 two bedroom, plus utilities.
*Rent is monthly per unit.
