Don’t forget baby Jesus this Christmas

by: Pamela Crimbchin // theburr.com

Christmas is my favorite holiday. I heart the lights, the snow, the family, the food and of course, the presents!

It’s easy to get excited for Christmas morning in my house. The smell of ham, eggs and pancakes tickles my nose even before I’m out of bed. Once I’m downstairs, the sight of the beautiful Christmas tree, perfectly wrapped presents and 24 hours of The Christmas Story on TV brings Christmas joy to my heart.

And who doesn’t LOVE presents? I love presents. You can buy me a present everyday of the week if you really want to. That’s totally cool with me.

However, while Christmas is a time to gather with family and friends, so often the real purpose of Christmas is hidden behind the excitement of present giving.

Christmas is to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ with those you love.

He was born on Christmas day for all of us.

Jesus was not born so you can get a new laptop, digital camera or even an awesome Mac compatible digital voice recorder for the start of your professional journalism career, although that would be so nice.

Jesus was born to spread the word of God and die on the cross to forgive us of our sins so we may have a happily ever after in Heaven, which is much better than a digital voice recorder.

Christmas is a time to celebrate his birth and his love for us. Without him, there would be no Christmas, literally. Jesus’s birthday is celebrated all over the world … take that “My Super Sweet 16″ kids!

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying  you should not buy presents and yell at anyone who tries to give you some — Remember, I love presents.

Christmas is a time for giving to those you love and those in need; for spreading the gift of love and joy to those around you, but this Christmas, try to remember why you are giving. You are giving because Jesus was born and Jesus gave us the ultimate gift of his love.

I hope everyone has a wonderful present-filled Merry Christmas, but don’t forget to say “Happy Birthday Jesus” (or “Happy Birthday baby Jesus” if you’re Ricky Bobby) at some point in the day and thank him for his ultimate sacrifice.
