It’s 7:00 on a Friday night and you get a text.
“Hey … wanna hangout?”
Of course girls know this is code for, “let’s have a date”, so you respond with a noncommital “what do you have in mind?” This is where most college students get stumped. What do you do for a romantic evening when you don’t own a car and you both live in the dorms?
I remember my days staying in the dorms and most date nights turned into the same old- sitting on a futon watching tv, for hours. But trust me, there is a world outside of the dorm walls.
I asked around to see what some couples do for fun, cheap dates in Kent.
Junior dance major Katie Naso said, “We go to the movies at the plaza on Mondays — only $5 and free popcorn! On Tuesdays we go to El Dorados because wings are 25 cents.”
Katie also included that she and her boyfriend sometimes go to Katie’s Korner for ice cream.
“We’ve gone to Anthony’s Cakes & Cafe for a date once,” she said. “It’s cheap and they have pretty good food. The owners are so cute, they, like, deliver your food right to your table.”
Senior health and physical education major Kelly Gephart said she and her boyfriend like to grab some food at Franklin Deli and then take a walk by the riverside. She also added, “Sometimes we would just grab pizza and beer and cuddle up to watch favorite movies.”
So don’t get the date-night blues. We live in a college town, so there are always fun, cheap things to do. There are always free movies being shown around campus. Check any bulletin board around campus and you’ll see signs for free events that can spice up your mundane date life!
